Its macroporous structure offers excellent resistance to osmotic and physical shock; it has got a high operating capacity, as well as a high reversible sorptive capacity for complex organic materials, such as the fulvic and humic acids which occur in many surface water supplies. In a conventional two-stage deionizing plant, its silica-removal properties are comparable with those of any premium type 2 strong base anion resin; however, as with other resins of this type, a polishing mixed-bed is necessary to ensure the lowest levels of residual silica. Anionic resin in the chloride form has a unique ability to remove organic colour bodies from polluted waters, pharmaceutical and chemical streams.
Macroporous strong cationic resin Macroporouspoly (styrene sulphonate) cation-exchange resin with excellent resistance to both osmotic and thermal shock.
Its special sponge-like structure permit shigher rates of diffusion of most cations including those of heavy metals andamines and also positively charged organics of higher molecular weight, and facilitates their removal on regeneration. These properties of physical robustness, good regeneability, and fast kinetics of exchange make it ideal fora range of applications. This resin finds applications in mixed beds, for make-up and condensate polishing, for hydrometallurgy, for sugar treatment, and demineralisation of numerous organic solutions to name but a few. Here, no gelresin is normally recommended because of the extra osmotic and mechanical stresses imposed by the external regeneration of the resin and its subsequent return to service.
